Oh Sound the Call...

I got a whiff of Interlochen just from looking at their website. The smell of the Scholarshop while it rains outside, the Melody Freeze with it's greasy pizza and soft ice cream. Maybe it's because it's been so hot and humid, and now early in the morning it's cool, and I am brought back to mornings at Interlochen.

USA vs FS

Texas makes a break for the border

Excerpt:

Independence wouldn’t be a huge stretch for Texas. It already has its own national flag, left over from its decade as a sovereign republic. As a result, transition expenses should be minimal. At the Austin tea party, Governor Perry, still flushed with the excitement of denouncing federal oppression from the platform, told reporters, “When we came in the union, in 1845, one of the issues was that we would be able to leave if we decided to do that.” He added, a little ominously:

My hope is that America, and Washington in particular, pays attention. We’ve got a great Union. There’s absolutely no reason to dissolve it. But if Washington continues to thumb their nose at the American people, who knows what might come out of that.

Or, translated into New Yorkese: Nice little Union you got there. Be a shame if anything happened to it.

Pros and cons of course. PRO: we could get more done without the pickets. CON: they'll probably end up waging war

All in moderation.

All in moderation. Balance is key.

東京

It's still gorgeous outside. Only now, I miss Tokyo. Maybe it's the heat, maybe it's the rediscovery of manga, but I pine for Tokyo. The bookstores, the shops, the people, the sites, the smells. Ohhh Tokyo. At least Portland has Kinokuniya. WAIT. Holy shit. I just found out there's one in midtown. OH I am so there in a heartbeat.

Outside

It's a funny thing, it's gorgeous outside - might get a little on the warm side, but bright and sunny, and everything's in bloom. Now what's funny is that I can't think of anything to do outside in New York city that doesn't involve spending money. Except just chilling in a park. But the gardens, the zoos, flea markets, and then the streets get excessively crowded...I miss Portland! Portland when it's nice it is marvelous, there's nothing you can't do, and you don't have to pay a dime. New York needs more parks. Needs more green, more trails, more free things to do. If New York City had mountains with hiking trails it would be absolutely perfect. But it doesn't, and I have no car, and so I am stuck with the man made parks with few hidden trails. It's glorious outside and I do not know what to do! I'll probably end up at the Botanic Garden, just cause it's close, and I need to be outdoors today. If I could, I'd go to the nursery and garden all bloody day, but a) I don't have a car and b) there's construction going on in the back of the house that sort of impedes any gardening.

***update***

Spent the day outside in Prospect Park with friends and guitars. Drinks in the evening. French fries, please! (How about some cheese!) 6 am bonding.

To Do

1. Cookbook - Resize.
2. Ransom Note - Dear Coffee, we stole your caffeine, hahaha. - Decaf.
3. Flash Animation - Storyboard: figures popping up as you walk through a gallery.
4. Website Draft - (Piece of cake). Find color scheme, crop images.
5. Brochure - Flip images, more bodies.
6. Business Cards - Put bodies on back, get rid of bodies on front.
7. Posters - Change font color, reposition logos, tighten headers.

It looks like a lot overall, but really it's just a bunch of little things. Optimism yay!

'Henry's Women'

There's an exhibit of paintings of all the women in Henry VIII's life at Hampton Palace. I yearn to go. Pine to go. Desire it. These paintings have never been seen before by the public, and they are certainly not on the internet. Some bare an entirely different likeness than the canonical, and oh to go see them would be divine. Maybe I'll be able to go to Europe this summer and swing by England before the exhibit ends.

grr

There's something very cathartic about smashing something on the ground.

It's taking a lot of control not to do that with my cell phone right now - because it would feel so good, to throw it and have it break apart into bits and pieces. But I know I shouldn't do that. I need my phone.

If I had my softball I'd chuck it at the garage if it wasn't so monsoony outside. Which is why I'm angry. Because I normally love this weather to pieces - but not when my wellies are across the country and it's taken five months for them to reach me. Very fucking frustrating.
